Adobe Photoshop 2022 […]
February 17th – July 2nd, 2023
Free admission
For the first time, the agora, MUDEC’s iconic space, welcomes a site-specific installation, Adobe Photoshop 2022: 62x70m, 10 dots/cm, RGB, 8 Bits/Channel, Square Pixels, Legacy Gradients Spectrum, (XY) mousedown 1000,5000 mouseup 6000,1000.
The project by American artist Cory Arcangel (b. 1978) is a rainbow assembled thanks to random combinations of Photoshop gradients, which is transformed from pure digital abstraction into a tangible and perceptible object: a carpet that interacts with the viewer by creating a unique chromatic space through the reflection of light on the glass of the agora.
Arcangel’s pavement rainbow is part of the artist’s established practice of questioning how we assimilate and appropriate digital experience in our daily lives. How does digital technology, and even everyday internet browsing, games and music on the platforms we all use, transform the contours of our reality? What do we really see, hear and feel? How does our collage of perceptions, which we naively pass off as reality, work? Do we really connect a coloured pattern on the floor to a rainbow in the sky? Cory Arcangel uncovers and describes these disconnections, creating an open and playful situation, which in this case occurs while walking on a rainbow.
